Here is a really interesting piece I picked up over the weekend at a flea market. Its a boys sized Elco watch with a military style dial and a 15 jewel adjusted movement. I think quite a common watch for the time. I dont usually buy watches with engravings on the back but this one caught my attention so I thought I would do some more research on it. Its great to see that this watch made it all the way from the 1940’s to now and is still keeping good time and the owner I assume for that entire time Jack Rutherford kept it serviced.
On the back of the case is marked “Jack Rutherford “Coach” Midland Inter “A” O.H.A Champs 1940-41″. Upon further research of this it turns out this season and that team made it into the Midland Ontario sports hall of fame (im not sure how important that is but it might just be a local thing) but its an interesting read.
Anyhow here are a couple of pictures of the watch, I thought I would show this unique piece with a great traceable Canadian hockey history.
